Privacy Policy

This policy explains how Starbase Technologies ("we", "us", "our") handles personal information through Funda and this website. We follow the Cyber and Data Protection Act [Chapter 12:07] of Zimbabwe.

1. Our role

Schools use Funda to keep records about their learners, parents or guardians, and staff. For those records, the school decides what is collected and why, and we process the information on the school's behalf and on its instructions. Questions about a learner's records should go to the school first.

For information about the schools we work with and people who contact us, such as names and phone numbers of school contacts, we are responsible for how it is used.

2. Information we handle

Records schools keep in Funda

Learner details, such as name, class, admission number and date of birth.
Parent or guardian names and contact details.
Fee records, payments, receipts and statements.
Student notes the school chooses to record.
Staff names, login details and roles.

Information about how Funda is used

An audit trail of changes: who changed what, and when.
Technical logs, such as sign-in times, IP addresses and browser type, used for security and fixing problems.

When you contact us

Your name, school, email address, phone number and what you tell us.

3. How we use it

To provide Funda to your school, including setup, training and support.
To keep the system secure, prevent misuse and investigate problems.
To send invoices and service messages, such as notice of price changes or maintenance.
To reply when you contact us about Funda.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not use learner or parent information for advertising or marketing.

4. Learners' information

Most learners are children, so their information needs extra care. Schools are responsible for having a lawful reason to record it and for informing parents or guardians. Within Funda, schools control which staff can see which information, and sensitive notes are only shown to the staff the school chooses.

5. Who we share it with

We only share personal information when we need to, with:

Service providers who host and run Funda for us, such as cloud hosting providers, under confidentiality terms.
Messaging and payment providers, once features like SMS or Ecocash payments are switched on by your school.
Authorities, when the law requires us to.

Some of our service providers may store information outside Zimbabwe. Where this happens, we take steps to make sure the information is protected to the standard the law requires.

6. How we protect it

Each school has its own private database.
Information is encrypted while it travels between your device and Funda.
Staff access is controlled by role, and every change is recorded in an audit trail.
Data is backed up regularly.

7. How long we keep it

We keep a school's records for as long as it uses Funda. If a subscription lapses, we keep the records for up to 12 months so the school can return, then delete them after giving at least 30 days' notice. A school can ask us to delete its records sooner. We may keep invoices and payment records for longer where the law requires.

8. Your rights

Under Zimbabwean law, you can ask to:

see the personal information held about you,
correct information that is wrong,
have information deleted where there is no longer a reason to keep it, and
object to how your information is used.

If your information is in a school's records, such as a learner's or parent's details, please contact the school. We will help the school respond. You can also complain to the Data Protection Authority (POTRAZ).

9. This website

This website does not use advertising or tracking cookies. It loads fonts from Google Fonts, which means your browser connects to Google's servers and shares your IP address with them.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The latest version will always be on this page, and we will tell schools about important changes.
